Colonial and Postcolonial Linguistics is a newly emerging field in Linguistics and Language Studies. Its central interest is to explore and unveil the relationships between language and colonialism. This will help to come to a better understanding of (early Western) resources on non-European languages, their purposes, aims, audiences, methodological backgrounds and relevance for current research.
From a sociolinguistic point of view, the creation and affirmation of power relations, colonial hegemonies, and colonial ideologies through linguistic contributions is an area of research and debate of utmost importance.
